The Rover wheel bearings and stub axles seem to have lots of reserve strength to handle the additional load of moving the wheels out. Rover made a number of compromises when designing the suspension for your Land Rover. Early Euro spec Defender panels do not have side light holes and the mounting bolt holes match up to a Series inner wing panel. If you want to pursue this kind of radical lift you should consider working with a 4X4 shop that is experienced in doing radical lifts for other street driven 4X4s. A second lifts the frame but does not change the clearance between the axles and the ground. Shocks will need to be replaced with longer ones.
The third lifts the body in relation to the frame and by itself does not increase ground clearance. In my Land Rover this was accomplished by cutting out a half circle in the top vertical side of the cross member and hammering the top down to meet the new edge. I am suffering from worn bushes at the rear as until recently I have not fitted cranked trailing arms. Also the front prop shaft connection will be at a steeper angle. I'm not sure but I think the D2 have a smaller arch width. There is a tradeoff for every change you make from stock.
After all January is coming up soon. Lifting the frame: Lifting the frame in relation to the axles allows for taller tyres, better approach and departure angles, deeper wading and gets everything except the axles higher for additional ground clearance. Set of 4 adjustable ride height sensors manufactured of T6061 and stainless. The rear prop shaft of a 109 goes through a hole in a cross member. This is achieved by removing the body from the frame, adding spacers at the mount points then remounting the body on the spacers. A wider wheelbase is always good in conjunction with a lift.
In addition it enhances the approach and departure angles. . If you are looking to gain clearance under your vehicle for rough roads or get some extra wheel well space for larger wheels and tires, complete lift kits are the absolute best way to go because it is essentially one stop shopping. Many of these kits also come with longer brake lines and custom steering linkage to compensate for the added lift. One end of the prop shaft has a set of male splines at the end.
You can not change one thing in the suspension and body height without having it affect other things. You're going to have to extend all the brake hoses. A perfect solution for additional front wheel clearance! Another nice thing about suspension lift kits is that not only do you gain clearance for bigger rubber, but you also gain ground clearance under the vehicle so that you are less likely to hit rocks or get high-centered when driving off road. Enlarging the space for tyre clearance without lifting the body: There are two primary issues involved here. Also included, mounting hardware, adjustable ride height position sensor linkages, and air line ectensions. Thank you very much to everyone for all the info here this is proving very helpful! Small body lifts can can affect the length between the transfer case and front diff enough to cause the front prop shaft to separate under extreme downward front articulation.
Negatives include higher centre of gravity, possible changes to the steering geometry, steeper angles on prop shafts and prop shaft to frame clearance issues. Spacers or a longer prop may be required. Downward articulation swings the top of the tyre out towards the wheel well edges. Extreme 4x4 do castor correction arms that run at about £160 each. Bushes alone won't work you will have to have castor arms or import plates from rovertym in aus or similar.
I bring stuff over on there on occasion. Downward spring articulation and a static clearance lift face the same clearance factors. This type of lift does not raise the center of gravity as much since the heavy stuff remains low. The shop will ask the static length between the prop shaft mounting flanges so you should measure prior to bring yours in for rework. One is vertical height to fit the tyre and the other is side to side clearance at extreme articulation. I seem to be able to find very little info on this for the disco 2 and was just wondering what is 100% necessary to do and secondly the suppliers for these parts? This is a precisely machined direct bolt in kit that requires no further modifications.
You will need to extend brake lines, abs wires all round. Add taller tyres and you have that as well. Technologies have improved and Rover was not necessarily on the leading edge of technology when your Land Rover was built. Fast Delivery We ship same-day on orders placed before 12:00pm eastern time, Monday - Friday excluding holidays from both our East and West Coast Warehouses. With the body sitting higher away from the frame there is more room for big wheels and tires, however the actual ground clearance underneath the vehicle remains unchanged.
Note that the Defender outer wing panel has a lo more tyre clearance. If a spring over or taller lift is made in a 109, this hole has to be relocated downwards to maintain clearance during articulation. There is generally enough front to rear clearance for this to occur keep this movement in mind if reworking inner wheel wells. If you would like to discuss any of the contents, or just say hi, please feel free to. The watts linkage and also the ride height indicator will need extending too.
