To accurately troubleshoot and determine the problem you will need an oscilliscope and a diagnostic scanner. Other failures such as a broken valve spring may make no noise at all other than the engine popping and pinging. This allows each coil to operate with less dwell time that the coil is energized , resulting in less heat buildup and longer life. Engine has run fine since, if something changes, I'll let you know. In a waste spark system, an individual coil is used to fire one pair of engine cylinders simultaneously. At 28000 miles if your carbon-ed up, you got other problems.
I did not have time to do all of them. I was definitely surprised because I had no indication of any problems and the motor seemed perfect. The coil near plug system also features multiple ignition coils. Driving around next day and smelled strong burning oil. Otherwise, check the coils a. There were two broken on each side of the motor. I purchased the vehicle with 1500 miles and now have 24K miles. There are too many better reputable companies that will provide reasonable customer service if you should have an issue.
I still don't understand exactly what happened. Obviously, what I thought was a great opportunity has gone way south. New Cam and now it runs fantastic! Also noticed other day 4wheel drive shows led indictor engauged and solid light but it really is not in 4 wheel drive so no clue where to start troubleshooting that issue. I now have 24K miles on the car. I did a few plugs not all with the balance test and could not notice rpm drops.
Another common reason and typically missed diagnosis for a rough running engine is the lean misfire. Engine runs great no noise, lots of power. No smoke show assuming clean engine,and have done it in the past with same results. My friend's Durango just broke a valve spring. After doing that and a lot of online research I removed my valve cover and found my rocker arm was thrown. I was just driving home from work, traveling at about 50mph when the miss started. Put everything back together and again the same problem. My Brothers 09 Ram 1500 Hemi just had the same issue on a 7 Cylinder misfire. Dodge should do a recall on the lifters and camshaft, Search hemi problems, hemi cam, hemi missfire in cylinder and so on.
